Horses 099: The Basics of Horsin’ Around Workshop |
|
OK, M’am. You’ve decided you’d like to do some serious horsing around — in the saddle or not. Where do you get started? In this fun, hands-on workshop, we introduce the different schools/styles of riding (it’s not just English or western!), what to wear, how to handle a horse, how to groom and tack up (and what the heck is all that tack!), how to be safe — basically, everything we wish we’d known before we went for our first (or tenth) lesson. And...we’re going to put you up on a horse (if you want), for a cruise around the arena. For those who aren’t really interested in riding and prefer to work with horses on the ground, we’ve got some great ideas about how you can get some “horse time” in! This is an environment totally unlike your office. We meet in a barn, so wear your comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes. If you intend to get on a horse, please wear or bring boots with a heel. There are barn smells and dust and you don’t need to wear makeup or blow dry your hair. Details: Where: YeeHaw Stables, Woodside, CA (between San Francisco and San Jose, on the Peninsula) Length of Workshop: one day, 8AM to 2PM Meals: morning snack, coffee, tea, and fun lunch (dietary restrictions respected) Ages: appropriate for all women. Physical condition: limited mobility is fine; just need to be able to use the port-a-potty, if necessary. Please just let us know ahead of time, if you need help with a wheelchair, etc. Knowledge/Experience Required: life experience celebrated! No horse experience required.

Yep, that’s an English saddle on Cisco — but do you know what kind? |

Blade, Chris, and Shiloh model western gear. Except, Chris always wears a helmet when she’s in the saddle! |
